Coaching by using the MIRROR method is a proven method to coach crisisteams or organisations.
‘The communication did not go well.’
‘Sharing information was not sufficent enough.’
‘There was no shared understanding of the situation.’
Why do we approach Team Resource Management by means of the MIRROR method?
At the beginning of a crisis, there is not one organisation that has all the information. Different organizations have the information, knowledge, and expertise that is crucial for building the overall picture of the crisis and for making decisions. Coordination between the organizations is essential, for example, to coordinate tasks and share the right information with each other.
People don’t know each other and each other’s organization well or not enough. Yet they have to work together in a stressful situation and under time pressure. Communication is an important part of this because not everything can be determined in advance.
Effective communication and sharing of information are essential for building a shared situational picture and ultimately coordinating effectively and making good decisions. The interaction process is therefore crucial.
This module gives team members insight into how different factors can influence the interaction process. This insight allows team members to respond appropriately if the interaction process is not going smoothly, resulting in better informed and more widely supported decisions. Coupled with a reflection module, this training offers many tools to gain insight into the interaction process. Team members learn to reflect on the team interaction, both in a practice situation, during their daily work, and during an actual deployment.
Target audiences:
- Members of crisis teams
- In particular, teams that are diverse, do not have a fixed composition and are (possibly) supplemented with liaisons from other sectors who work together in the event of a disaster or crisis. MIRROR is applicable to the different crisis management levels.
Learninggoals:
- Get to your strengths, as a team, and as an individual
- Strengthening competencies, as an individual and as a team
- Experiencing differences between arousal and stress and being able to deal with different forms of pressure and tension
- Recognizing factors that influence the interaction in a team
- Recognizing pitfalls of the crisis team
- Using the power of a multidisciplinary team intervening positively in the interaction process
Program:
1. Strengthening the competences (general):
2. Individual competences versus team competences
3. Improving and growing in the interaction:
4. Working under pressure or work pressure
5. Conclusions, survey and evaluation (what next?)
Methodology/didactic teaching methods:
- Physical, with digital, online training as an alternative
- This training is interactive, inspiring, and contains many practical examples and focuses on soft skills.
The senior trainer trains himself in a coaching manner. He lets the participants work with different assignments: task-oriented, network-oriented and people-oriented!
With the help of one or more cases, the participants really get to work. For this we use video recordings and/or a ‘role play’. - The participants receive many handles, tips & tops.
The senior trainer alternates plenary, joint moments with working in groups or break-out rooms (splitting up).
